What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Journey Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

The Bible

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testament is God’s written Word to mankind. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit and is therefore, without error. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
(John 1:1, 14)

God

We believe there is only one true and living God. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He has eternally existed in three co-equal, holy persons: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit (The Trinity).

God is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  "In Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28). God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God has revealed Himself through all creation so that all are without excuse.

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11)

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became man without ceasing to be God, was born of a virgin, led a sinless life, and fulfilled every Old Testament bible prophecy about His life. He died on a cross for our sins and rose from the dead in order to secure our salvation. He then ascended to heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. He serves as our high priest and mediator, providing the only bridge between God and man.

"waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ"
(Titus 2:11-13)

Holy Spirit

We believe in the power and authority of the Holy Spirit. Being one with God, He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian the understanding of spiritual truth, conviction of sin, guidance in doing what is right, comfort when hurting, and the empowering to live a Godly life.

"If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you."
(Rom 8:11)

Mankind

We believe that Man was created in the image of God, but because of sin, fell from grace and is therefore lost, separated from the presence of God and a relationship with Him until the moment of faith in the redemptive, sacrificial death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.
(Isaiah 59:2)

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised Him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. - (Acts 4:12)
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.
- Titus 2:11-14

Baptism & Communion

We believe in the ordinances of Water Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. While they have no power in and of themselves for salvation, they are an act of obedience to the commands of Christ.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
(Matt 28:19)

The Church

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the head of the church, which, as His Body, is composed of all of His true disciples, those who have received salvation through faith in Him.  We, the members of His body are to continue to grow in our knowledge, understanding, and application of God’s Word. The Church is the Bride of Christ, to someday be united with Him upon His return.

"proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light"
1 Peter 2:9

Return of Christ

We believe in the personal, bodily, and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. At a time known only to God the Father, He will come again to gather His Church, those who have already died and those who are still alive, unto Himself and they shall forever be with Him.

Jesus will is one day return for His people who are "eagerly waiting for Him" (Heb 9:28) and who are longing to behold His glory.  This is how one can say "I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord" (Phil 3:8). He will judge both the living and the dead and usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.

"Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God"
2 Peter 3:11
